Trimming a video

Trimming a video

Introduction

With Icareus Suite you can trim the video directly in the cloud environment. Trimming means removing footage from the beginning and/or from the end of the video.
In addition, you can also create new highlight videos from the original video, e.g. if you have a 1 hour long video with 5 speakers, you can create 5 separate "highlight" videos, each showing a single speaker's parts.

Trimming

To trim to the video, click the "Trim video" icon next to the video preview on the video settings page of the video you've selected.

It will open a modal.

Longer videos may load the trimmer for longer.

Enter the trimming parameters, either by
  1. dragging the ends of the trimming area on the timeline where you want them to be, or by
  2. writing the desired start and end times of the trimming area to the text boxes on the right of the video player.

The longer the video, the less precise dragging the trimmer ends will be - for videos under a minute they move in 1s increments, but for +1h videos that grows to +1min increments. Because of this, we recommend using the text boxes if precise timing is necessary.

The two methods reflect each other, so the values in the text boxes will change when you drag the ends of the trimming area and vice versa.

You can play the video or drag the pointer (the white line) on the timeline to change your current position/what you're seeing of the video.

Once you are ready, click "Trim video". A new modal will open, asking if you want to edit the original video or create a new trimmed version.

Continue: Trim the original video file.
Continue and keep original: Create a new, trimmed version of the video file and keep the original video untrimmed.

The trim can't be undone - if you trim the original video, there's no way to return the trimmed parts. Select "Continue and keep original" if you think might need the untrimmed version in the future.

Selecting either "Continue" will close the new modal and return you to the Trimmer as it processes your request.

The cut/trim points are not exact to ensure maximum speed. The start and end times will be rounded to nearest key-frames.

You can now close the modal and refresh the page. If you chose to create a new trimmed version, moving to the "Videos" page will show you the new video in the same folder as the original one.
  1. The system will add the week day, date and time to the end of new video's name
  2. The new video's thumbnail will be different from the original if the starting point of the new video looks different from that of the original
