Clipping a video

Clipping a video

Introduction

You can clip a video directly in the cloud environment. Clipping means cutting footage from the video into separate video assets.

Clipping

To open the clipping tool, click the "Clip video" icon next to the video preview on the video settings page of the video you've selected.

It will open the clipping modal.

Info
Longer videos may load the clipper for longer.

Creating a clip

You can move on the timeline in a few ways. These methods are:
  1. Dragging the zoomed in timeline (to the left to move forward and to the right to move backward)
  2. using the regular video timeline above it, either by clicking somewhere on the timeline, or by dragging the ball on it left or right
  3. Playing the video
You can change the length of time shown on the zoomed in timeline with the zoom slider below the video player. By default, it will be fully zoomed in.

Info
For longer videos, the zoom slider may initially lag when zooming in/out.

Enter the clipping parameters, either by
  1. dragging the ends of the clipping area on the timeline where you want them to be, or by
  2. writing the desired start and end times of the clipping area to the text boxes on the right of the video player.

Info
The more zoomed out you are on the clipper timeline, the less precise dragging the clipper ends will be. Because of this, if you want to create longer clips with specific start/end times, we recommend using the text boxes to achieve precise timing.

The two methods reflect each other, so the values in the text boxes will change when you drag the ends of the clipping area and vice versa.

Warning
The cutting points are not exact to ensure maximum speed. The start and end times will be rounded to nearest key-frames.

Name and (optionally) describe the clip. A name is required in order to save the clip.
Once you are ready, click "Save clip". A new modal will open, asking if you really want to create a new video.

Selecting "Continue" will close the new modal and return you to the clipping tool as it processes your request.

Once it's processed, the new clip will be listed in the clip list below:

Any additional clips of this video will also be added to this list.

From the list, you can:

  1. Open the clip's video page on it's own tab
  2. delete the clip

All new clips will appear in the same folder as the clipped video.

The new video's thumbnail will be different from the original if the starting point of the new video looks different from that of the original. The new video files will have the names and descriptions you gave them:
