Automatic Subtitle Generation

You can use Icareus' automatic subtitle generation tool to produce raw captions/subtitles for your videos. These subtitles can then be edited, same as any other subtitle file.

Generating subtitles automatically

Using the automatic subtitle generation tool starts on the video asset page: you will need to have selected the video you wish to subtitle, to enter its asset page.

The button for automatic subtitling is to the right of the video player, second from the left of the four icons. It says "Automatic Subtitles".

Click the button, and a modal will open:

The modal will ask if you wish to proceed with automatic subtitle generation. Proceeding will use up your monthly quota of this automatic subtitle generation service by an amount equal to the length of the video.

Generating subtitles in this manner uses an AI (=artificial intelligence) to do so. This is a resource-intensive process, which is why a monthly quota is in place. 

Currently, automatic subtitle generation can be done for these spoken languages:

1. English
   
2. Finnish
   
3. Swedish

Select the language spoken in the video from the "Primary language" dropdown.

Now, click the "Yes, proceed" button to proceed with the generation process. This will close the modal. An informational popup will appear:

Popup text: 'Automatic subtitles are being generated for the video. They will appear under the Subtitles tab of the video once this is done. Subtitle generation may take a moment.'

Subtitle generation will continue in the background. Longer videos will take longer to process.

The generated subtitle file will appear in the subtitle list. It will be named according to the chosen language.
