Streams

Streams

Introduction

Streams define the actual video streams that are served to clients. These are not seen by end-users but delivered to the video player that opens and plays the livestream.
Icareus Suite sets these automatically based on the video presets defined for the account. However, admins can change these manually if they prefer using 3rd party stream sources, e.g. a live video transcoder.

Location

Streams are configured in the Streams tab under each channel.

Features

The stream tab is used to configure the optimal stream for each end-device to the single channel defined in the list. You might need a different stream version to support e.g. Desktop, iOS and Android phones. Each platform may use different stream format, quality, and resolution.
Example streams for a single channel can be seen in the image below.

Configuring the streams

Streams are added automatically to each channel by Icareus Suite.
Streams can be
  1. Adaptive (stream quality changes based on the network connection)
  2. Non-Adaptive (the same quality stream is received all the time)
Configuring the stream is done by clicking the stream like in the image below (Stream: Desktop - Windows).

That will open the configuration form on the right, which allows you to define:

Feature
Description
Mandatory

Platform
Icareus has defined the streams presets, which are optimal for each platform
Yes

URL
URL of the stream
Yes

Protection
Optional selection, if some stream protection is used like DRM or Tokens
No

Adding new Streams

Adding the stream for a channel is easy. You need to push the 'Add' -button at the bottom of the middle section.

it will open a form on the right side of the page. There are two options:
  1. Adaptive Stream URL(s)
  2. Non-adaptive Stream URL(s)
The correct selection depends on the Platform (some platforms do not support adaptive streaming) and the available streaming solution and transcoders.
Icareus technical support will help the system administrator to configure correct stream settings on Icareus Suite.
