EPG Events, Genres and Program Information

Introduction and Main Features

EPG Events tab shows the electronic program guide for the linear channel familiar from TV. EPG is key for viewers to know "what's on" the channel and to plan their daily TV viewing.
Icareus EPG system also support enhanced program information and e.g. linking to catch-up services to encourage viewers also access past programming.
EPG events area is also used with Webinars, which are automatically added as Channels' EPG events.

The metadata can be extended as required by the customers and is derived originally from DVB EIT.
The EPG Events tab is presented below.



Ingest EPG Events Automatically

In majority of use cases, EPG events are provided by the broadaster or operator. For this reason Icareus has implemented many parsers to help our customers to ingest EPG data.
Please refer to chapter EPG Sources to learn more about how to configure your EPG source.

Adding EPG Events Manually

When there are not many daily events, it is possible to create and maintain those manually.  To add the EPG Event you need to click the 'Add' button under the middle section. The following info is required on the form:

After the data is filled, click the 'Save' button. 

Editing EPG Events 

Events can be seen and edited on this tab also manually. 
In order to edit an existing EPG event you just need to: 
  1. Search the correct EPG event based on the date 
  2. Click the event to open it on the right side 
  3. Edit the event 
  4. Click 'Save'
Please note that if you have configured an automatic EPG Source, all manual changes will be overridden on the update cycle.

Event Genres

On Icareus Suite's Channel Management EPG Event Genre tab it is possible to map events to genres using the keywords found in the event title and description. 
Notice that the same genres are used for the video assets in the archive. The genre is added automatically to the event during the EPG data ingestion.

Adding EPG Event Genres

Adding a new EPG Event genre is easy: 
  1. Click the 'Add' button at the bottom of the middle section. It will open a new empty form on right-hand side.
  2. Write the name of the new Event Genre
  3.  Click the 'Save' button.
  4. Now the Genre is added!



Adding Keywords for Event Genres

After you have created the event genre, you need to add keywords to that event genre, so that the filter can work and find the correct EPG events from the data. 
  1. Click the 'Add Keyword' button at the bottom of the rightmost section. It will open a new empty form on the right hand side. 
  2. Write the new keyword.
  3. Click the 'Save' button under the new rightmost section.
  4. Now the Keyword is added!
Repeat this and add as many keywords you think is suitable to find the correct EPG events.
