Automatic or manual translations of subtitles or captions
The admin user can do the translation of subtitles or captions either by:
- Manually translating the original language subtitle text and using "Save As" function to save it as different language subtitles
- Automatically by using the translation functionality of Icareus Subtitling tool
Automatic translation of subtitles or captions
The translation starts by opening the existing subtitle file. This way the admin user does not need to redo the time consuming timing work again.
Open the existing subtitle file from Icareus Video Cloud by clicking the 'Edit' button, the middle icon of the three to the right of the subtitle file name.
It will open the existing subtitle/caption file in the Icareus Subtitling tool.
In order to translate automatically, use the 'Translate To' functionality.
Select the target language and click the 'Translate' button.
It will process the file, inform you of the successful translation with a "translation success" message, and open the translated texts in the tool.
Automatic computer made translations haven't yet reached the point of perfection, and as such there may be some errors in the text.
You can manually correct the translations, the same as any other subtitles.
Saving and exporting subtitles to video
You can Save the subtitle files with the buttons on the left side of the window:.
In order to create a new subtitle file you need to click the 'Save as' button. It will open a modal.
Be careful not to click 'Save' instead! This will save the translation on you current file, overwriting it.
Name your subtitle file.
Click 'Save' to save the subtitle file.
The subtitle file will then appear in Video -> Subtitles.
The subtitle language options can now be found under the cc-options of the public video player.
